Horse shoeing is one of the tools of hoof care. The shoe should be adapted to the size and shape of the horse's hoof and the weight of its body. The shape of the shoe is the same as the shape of the hoof's supporting edge, i.e. the hooves of the forelegs are shod in a circular shape and the hind legs in an oval shape. Three different types of horseshoe are distinguished. The regular hoof is shod with a slipper shoe to prevent major wear of the hoof. The flat hoof is shod with a thickening shank and the steep hoof with a thinning shank, both of which restore the regular shank angulation.
